Weather Overview

Welcome to Mike's weather blog!

1) What am I looking at?

This is a view from my home in Swift Creek, NC that covers a nearly 150° - fish-eye like view of the sky around my wooded home.  You'll see the sky during night all times of year.  During the summer the system powers off if the sun gets too hot per https://astromaphilli14.blogspot.com/2019/08/diy-iot-power-and-cooling-considerations.html  These should be updated every 5 minutes so refresh for the latest or check the animation below.

2) What can I see during the nighttime?

During the night time you can get a view of constellations by using this link https://maphilli14.github.io/allskyplanetarium/

3) What did it look like recently?

Sometimes it's hard to spot changes to subtle, high level clouds and fog that might impact my viewing at night.  I tried to strike a balance between overloading the tiny raspberryPi but yet get the most recent but not stale information.  I settled on taking a new photo every 30 seconds and using the most current 25 of them to make the animation you see below.  This means you'll always see the latest 12min30sec, uploaded every 5min here...

4) Where can I see more?

Here's a dashboard view with current conditions and forecast data - https://astromaphilli14.blogspot.com/p/weather-dashboard-hud.html
Finally I upload files every morning and you can review the full night animations -

5) What Artificial Satellite was that?

https://www.heavens-above.com/AllSats.aspx can help track down objects you see and also give you something to look forward to if there are planned ISS or bright flare events upcoming!
Some events and other natural phenomena are located on my calendar as well -  https://calendar.google.com/calendar?cid=ZWFhZmd1NDVqaHR1c2xjYzRzOGR1bjg0OWNAZ3JvdXAuY2FsZW5kYXIuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbQ

6) Lots of planes too Mike

I am approximately 13 miles SSE of KRDU and you can see what planes are nearby with this resource: https://flightaware.com/live/airport/KRDU

Happy Telescoping!  🔭🌟✨🌠⭐
